Expert Opinion Evidence (Testimony)
- Examining and presenting--to counsel & others--issues in serious personal injury or death from vehicles/aircraft, work and equipment, sports and recreation, and environmental effects including climate (hypothermia) and toxic substances.
- Working with an engineer or biomechanical expert to understand matters such as mechanical factors: for example, relating the crash to movement & vehicle deformation; resolving the forces affecting occupant(s); relating same to injuries by recognizing patterns of injury; failure of helmet; and recognizing the potential of existing disease in the cause of crash.
- In cases of medical malpractise (plaintiff or defendant) performing a review of hospital records, consultants' findings, laboratory and diagnostic imaging and other reports; interpreting and assessing procedures and standards; defining substantive issues; suggesting and locating further consultant(s) to offer opinion in special areas of expertise.
- Conducting sound research with particular attention to current literature and practise; briefing counsel on procedures and devices; providing alternatives and probabilities about cause; preparing counsel to consider a course of action; and assisting prediction of outcome.
- Interpreting counsel's issues to locate and brief other, including medical experts.
