Fee Schedule
The hourly and daily fees are comparable with what one expects to pay for private legal or medical consultations, but the fees may be higher for example than some provincial and state authorities usually pay for experts under legal aid programs (see FAQ). Usually in developing a written opinion, an hourly rate is appropriate; it may include a pro rated fee for some of the work, e.g. extensive search for scientific articles relating to the case, or search for another expert (see FAQ).
Please note; commonly opinions exceed eight hours of analysis, research, writing and editing.
In almost all undertakings a retainer of $1000 minimum is requested at the time of engagement and credited against the work, which then begins by reading and analysing the file. This alone requires 3-4 hours, and frequently longer. The retainer is not refundable. Accounts become payable on completion or as work proceeds.
In cases requiring travel, out of pocket expenses (meals, accommodation) and fares or mileage are charged additionally, as may be the travelling time. In some instances a per diem rate may be negotiable, most often when portal to portal time is included for example when travelling long distances by air to attend court. Pathfinder Forum has a tariff schedule, and also will provide a quotation, please ask.
