Lectures, Instruction and Public Speaking
Dr. Butt has a history of firsts in forensic education in Canada. He initiated (1977) and continues with the sudden death part of the major crimes investigation technique course at the national Canadian Police College in Ottawa, Canada. He first promoted forensic nursing in Canada with short courses in 1994, and at the University of Calgary in the late '70's, Dr. Butt started the first post-graduate training program in forensic pathology in Canada. At the other end of the spectrum, the 'entry' level, he initiated lectures and a forensic museum for secondary school students. He is nationally known for his sensitivity about the subject of sudden death and the elements of mystery that may surround death; for instance in 1993 he began speaking about his field with grade 4-5 students through classroom visits.
Dr. Butt has given given many lectures on the subject of forensic pathology to police agencies (including training academies), in both Canada and the United States, and in many Canadian medical schools.
